In 2025, our community took 12,824 actions to defend public lands, wildlife, and clean water across the Central Coast. We helped reduce a 90,000-acre Forest Service logging proposal to a 15,257-acre science-based alternative, advanced protections for endangered steelhead in Arroyo Grande Creek, and saw the bigberry manzanita designated California’s official State Shrub. I live in a conservative town. Conservative here means something different than conservation. Los Padres ForestWatch was a game changer for me because I began to meet like-minded people at their events. I visited one of their booths at Los Olivos Day and saw some old friends of mine—maps! Then I began to follow connections from Los Padres ForestWatch on Instagram and I’ve been learning about native species. LPFW has really opened me up to new things and brought me back to nature.
