Here on California’s central coast—and throughout the country—public lands are special places where people go to explore the wonders of nature, enjoy outdoor adventures, and create memories with friends and family. They provide wildlife habitat, clean water, breathtaking views, and help regulate our climate.

As a child growing up in urban southern California, I discovered the wonders of public lands during family trips to national and state parks, forests, and beaches. I also spent many hours exploring the canyons and ridgelines near my hometown. Over time, freeways and development destroyed some of my favorite stomping grounds. I learned that if we want to see public lands protected, it’s people like you and me who need to stand up and protect them.

Our lands, waters, and wildlife don’t protect themselves. They are constantly under threat from those who want to destroy and exploit their natural resources for profit and power. Our public lands must be protected—for ourselves, for our kids, and for the generations ahead.

That’s where ForestWatch comes in. We serve as a voice for places like Los Padres National Forest and Carrizo Plain National Monument, and fight for their protection. With a twenty-year track record of success, we’ve used an effective blend of advocacy, community outreach, and hands-on stewardship projects to defend the places we love. We know these lands well, and we’re tirelessly committed to doing everything we can to protect them.

This is also where you come in. You have a stake in America’s public lands, and you hold an important role in their protection. You have a voice, and you have the power to affect meaningful and lasting change to make these lands—and our planet—a better place.

I hope you’ll join us and take action. There are so many ways you can make a difference. Donate critical funds—large or small—to support our work. Visit our online Action Center to make your voice heard. Follow us on email or social media and share important information with your network. Attend an event. Become a volunteer.

Most of all, get involved in ways that are most meaningful to you. Our public lands and wildlife depend on it.
